Description:

This event will be centred on Mirabai Starr's most recent book, Ordinary Mysticism, which explores mysticism not as an elite pursuit, but as an innate human capacity for presence, intimacy, and meaning—available in the midst of ordinary life. This book helps readers discover their own inner mystic by encouraging them to let go of the limiting belief that spiritual life exists only in traditional places of worship.

In keeping with Alternatives’ long-standing commitment to spirituality beyond dogma, this talk will emphasize direct experience over belief, and integration over transcendence. Rather than presenting mysticism as a goal to be attained, Mirabai Starr frames it as a relational way of inhabiting the world. Participants will be invited into reflection and simple contemplative practice, alongside storytelling and teaching, creating a spacious, participatory atmosphere.

This event is designed to speak to seasoned spiritual practitioners as well as those who feel spiritually curious, disenchanted with formal religion, or drawn to contemplative depth without institutional boundaries.
