Victoria Pendleton CBE
About the speaker
Victoria Pendleton started her cycling career in the 90s at a time when track cycling was deemed “too dangerous” for women to compete in, and then as the only woman being coached in the all-male British Track Cycling team, at a time when no provisions were made for female cyclists. Through grit and determination, and while being doubted at every stage of her career and in an incredibly sexist environment, Victoria smashed through several glass ceilings to become the most decorated female track cyclist of all time. After retiring from cycling, Victoria went on to defy the odds and train as a jump jockey, successfully competing at Cheltenham Races all while being told by men that it couldn’t be done.
