Pillars of Gold: Visionary London from Blake to Today

Pillars of Gold: Visionary London from Blake to Today
The fields from Islington to Marybone
To Primrose Hill and St John’s Wood
Were builded over with pillars of gold
And there Jerusalem’s pillars stood.
(Wm Blake)
Aidan Andrew Dun, visionary poet and psychogeographer, has had a lifelong fascination with the sacred site of Kings Cross, the holiest ground in Britain. In his widely-acclaimed epic poem, Vale Royal, launched at the Royal Albert Hall in 1995 (after a gestation period of 23 years) Aidan exposed the foundations of Britain in this magnetic zone of London.
Beginning from the understanding that Kings Cross St Pancras was in the distant past the site of a major pagan temple, in this presentation for Alternatives Aidan will be exploring the legendary backdrop of Britain’s primary ‘place of power’. Using projections, significant encompassing landmarks like Primrose Hill, The Penton and Parliament Hill will be discussed. The Celtic necropolis, said to lie beneath Kings Cross, will be investigated. And hidden in the backstreets of Kings Cross we will discover the seed-foundation of the Celtic Church. AAD will also talk about the local poets of Kings Cross who include WB Yeats, Arthur Rimbaud and most importantly, William Blake, who designated his mystical city of God – Jerusalem – as centred on Kings Cross.
Aidan A D’s walking tours of Kings Cross St Pancras (hosted by Alternatives) have been extremely well-received. In the more intimate setting of St James Piccadilly Aidan will also talk about how he came to stumble on the mystery of William Blake’s Jerusalem revealed in the urban macrocosm. And he’ll reference his long engagement with Argent St George, the developers of Kings Cross, during which he advocated strongly for the creation of a ‘small image of a new world’ at the heart of London.
There will be Q&A after the talk.
